I have enjoyed this series. Well written and grammatically correct throughout.Although not being from the country where the stories unfold, I have visited and lived in England. I thoroughly enjoy that country and how astute writers use the description of historical venues to advantage.
Aside from being just a series of good murder mystery well written I was really impressed by the way the author caused me to really dislike Keir. Personally I think that ability, to draw the reader in, is the sign of a very good author.
I hope to read more from LJ Ross.

First let me say I really like this series. The other reviews do a fine job of lauding the writer's talent. Having said this, I found the interview Lowerson had with the distressed lady interesting. As he enters the room, the woman is described as without makeup. As the interview ends, her tears cause her mascara to run down her face. I love it.
Really appreciate the author's style of writing. Beautiful sentence structure and flow. Keeps you interested throughout. Will definitely read more of his books.
What a story! Tense, nerve wracking loaded with fear, despair and above all love. These characters have become almost real to me. And the descriptions of the places and events add to that realism. Absolutely recommend, but you really should read series in order.
I am in the process of reading all of this DCI Ryan series. I am, obviously, enjoying them immensely. The first book had me a bit frustrated and confused, but I plowed on and while there are still some odd mistakes they are far fewer and don't get in the way of me enjoying the suspense, police political BS, killers being caught and/or killed and the process it involves. All of which are enjoyably tense and exciting. Therefore, I know, I will enjoy all of these books. Kudos to the author! Thanks for a great reading experience!
The writings by LJ ROSS capture your attention from the first lines. This story continues from book 4 with the escape of a prolific serial killer and the hunt for him and his benefactors. I read this book in one day as I always have to do when reading LJ ROSS. Schedule a day off and settle in for a great read.
I’m cross posting this review for all 7 books in the series as I read them back-to-back. Detective Chief Inspector Ryan is the star of this series, although there are several fantastic supporting characters as well.
The first book introduces you to the main characters, their flaws and strengths, as well as the Northumbrian landscape. This author clearly knows the territory in which her books take place and does a beautiful job of describing each location, so much so, that I’ve put the region on my “must visit” list.
Each book is a fast paced journey to find the criminal and bring him or her to justice. They’re sprinkled with the emotional details, trials and tribulations of the characters’ lives, which makes each of them real and believable. I had a very difficult time putting each and every one of these books down and now that I’ve finished the last one, I’m desperate for the next…

I have read and enjoyed all five books in this series. However, I would regard the books as telling a serialized story, where each book, except for No.5 was inconclusive, and I had to wait for the next book to find out what happens.
I would definitely read this author again, but only if each book is a stand-alone story - and not so depressingly gory!
